From our experience, usually a teacher asks you to have comfortable pants, a fitted top, something for your hips and a veil. Please read below to learn more about each of these items!

Now you need something for your hips! It is very important to get into character when you start dancing. This is most likely going to be foreign to you, so wearing something on your hips really helps you notice when you are moving your hips in time. Most students like coin scarves so they can hear their hips moving as well.  Some things to consider are: velvet or chiffon base, rectangular or V shaped, silver, gold or brass coins, price, size and color. All of these are personal preferences, so express yourself and find something that shows who you are!  When starting class at the studio, you can purchase your coin belt then.

For your legs, you can wear yoga pants or sweat pants are fine. 

Your top, needs to be non restrictive and comfortable in your own skin, so you can see the movement clearly.

Now you are dressed and ready for class! If you would like more practice at home consider a practice CD ($10)  Have fun!

Hello,

My cousin is getting married and has always wanted to try a belly dancing class, so I thought it would be a fun event for the bachelorette party.  How large of a group could you accommodate in a "private" lesson?  How much space do you need? Would you recommend holding the class in your studio or at our place if we have room?  If we held it at your studio are any food and beverages allowed?  And finally, would it be possible to hold the private group lesson on a Thursday evening? (The specific date is Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009.)
